As we are preparing for our performances of Sophocles' Antigone, we must stop to consider Antigone's actions. Whether out of personal rebellion or moral conviction, Antigone stands up for her beliefs. Have you ever had to make a stand for anything or anyone? Why was it important for you do to so at that time? Tell me about the situation and why you felt the need to take action OR what you wished you would have done when you had the chance, but didn't do for some reason. Why is it important to make a stand for some things, and why is it not important at other times? When is it okay to challenge people or ideas and when is it wrong? Come on, take a stand: Tell me what YOU think!
It is important to take a stand in what you belive because to you that is right. And if you think its right outher people need to know what is right. Some times its not good to open your mouth because there is a time and a place to do such. When ever you in a depate or argument its ok to challenge people or ideas its not ok if its a high athority than you. But all of this is an oppion and im saying it because i think its right..
ReplyDeleteI stood up for my friend who is really short one time because he was about to get his but kicked!! It was his fault kind of. He was too short to get his but kicked so i didnt let him get beat up!
ReplyDeleteThat certainly was "big" of you, Pig Squeeler. HA!!! Sorry, sometimes I am easily amused. :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to be an out there kind of person, in case you haven't noticed, and it has a tendancy to come back and bite me in the butt. I used to get picked on a lot for being really smart and weird. I love who I am though, even if I sometimes forget that other people have opinions and feelings. I had a girl tell me once that just because I was smarter than everyone, that didn't mean I was in charge. My peers used to pick me as the leader of our groups so I did't get a chance to let someone else go first. I have a perfect example: at one of the football games I was walking with one of my friends and there was this huge crowd. She was like "You go first, you look all mean and 'get-out-of-my-way', I don't." My imediate reaction, I pushed her in front and made her go first. It took us forever just to get halfway when she got behind me and then the crowd just kind of parted. I've been told that I'm a natural leader because I'm so in your face. I guess it works out well, but it ticks people off. But, you want to know something? I could care less what they think, I'll live my life the way I want wether they like it or not.
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to stand up for most of my friends because theyre pretty...mean? lol. Standing up for yourself is probably the biggest lesson you need to learn. If you cant stand up for yourself then what do you really stand for? If i believe in something then i'm going to back it up with everything i have. Im not going to change the way i think or the way i feel for anyone.
ReplyDeleteI most likely have stood up for someone/something I believed in before, but I can't think of an exact time. Although I can't tell about the times I've stood up for people (or lack thereof) I most certainly believe you should stick by what you think is correct, regardless of the authority at hand. Mostly because I believe that the biggest mistakes that are passed by and forgiven are made by the ones with the most authority, only because people are afraid of the consequences.
ReplyDeleteUhh, well sometimes i get defensive if people talk bad about gay people cause i have a gay brother, i understand where it may be weird for guys cause they don't want other guys interested in them, but people don't seem to understand that gay people are awesome, i get advice on my outfit all the time from my brother. Gay people are more open minded and everything, so sometimes i saw stuff to step up for gay people, because people shouldnt be so judgemental, if you don't like them then i think your stupid. haha
ReplyDeleteOne time I went to camp there was this boy in our cabin that wasn´t the " the coolest". One day these kids were picking on him so I told those kids to leave him alone and they did.
ReplyDeletethe quotation All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. by ~Edmund Burke i think means the people that see something bad happen don't do anything. for instance on nine eleven the only plan that did not hit a building was flight 93 of american airlines. the reason why was that the people raided the cockpit and killing the terrorists that hijacked the plan. thus bringing the plan into the ground and killing everyone on board. thus they were the good heros of that terrible day. that terrible day will be remembered in infamy.
ReplyDeleteI was bullyed alot wwhen I was younger, and no teacher would help. So I took it into my iwn hands, and won them all. Now i'm in MMA, and rock at it! Havn't been bullyed sence.
ReplyDeleteI stand up for anyone who gets bullied. I feel its not right for anyone to get laughed at. I just put myself in their shoes and see how it feels. I hope someday by sticking up for people, I can hopefully stop bullying.
ReplyDeleteI can not really recall any time I stood up for a friend or when they actully needed but I belive you should stand up for others. If not you then who would stand up for those who need it.
ReplyDeleteI stood up for my...i guess you could call it mourning? the mourning for my dad?. well it was like a week after my dad passed away and i'm one of those people who is comepletely apparently oblivious to how i swallow my feelings, and i dont want or let my feelings affect my friends and people around me, especialy if they will bring them down. so i was trying to my best abillity to be cheery for my friends untill one asked me one of the most gutt renching heart...ripping questions a have ever been asked...she asked me why i was so happy and i said idk. then...she asked, "do you like even care that your father died? like at all?" and i had to stand up for it :/.
ReplyDeleteWhen i was in Drama, i read a scene from Antigone with my partner I really liked it. I can't wait to read the whole story. About a young girl that is wanted for burying her brother. That is all i'm going to say i don't want to spoil the story for those who haven't read Antigone.
ReplyDeleteRapunzel, you need to read the prompt under the picture and then tell me of a time you made a stand for something. The pictures and the quotes are there for emphasis; but you still need to address the prompt.
ReplyDeletewhen we were moving to maine i really didnt want to i had made good friends in georgia and so i told my parents that moving us everywhere was redickuless and unfiar but when it comes to the military i guess a 12 year old has no say.
ReplyDeleteI am the type of person who if any of my friends are getting bullied or is upset who ever did it I would go talk to cause I hate when my friends are getting put down. And they never do anything about it. For instance my friend was with a group of people who made fun of her smile. And I didnt like that I gave them a piece of my mind and told them how that hurt her.
ReplyDeleteWhen I pwned up to Bob, not his real name, but I hate revealing peoples names. Bob is a guy in my gym hour who is really cocky, he will pick on people weaker than him, insult people to boost his overall morality, the usual jerk-face Bob. Lately he was constantly targeting me for his insults, and I wasn't somebody to just stand around. We were playing kickball and Bob was pitching, I was kicking; Bob threw a bad pitch so I caught it, threw it back to him, to which he replied, "not good enough for ya (sarcastic jerk-face voice)." Furiously, I kick the ball with all my might, the ball connects to his face (EPIC!!!), and I say, "Karma just owned you." That was the high moment of that week, because all my anger went into one kick, which connected to Jerk-face Bob's face, in the form of a kickball.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Note to self, don't tick off Karma, or ???? ! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's important to take stands at times because if you don't, people will think you are weak, and/or an easy target for the future. I don't really know why it would be bad for you to stand up for yourself, so I'll just let you answer that one for me.
ReplyDeleteI had had to stand up for someone before. I was out on a feild playing soccer and this kid who isn't very good was out. Will someone else who is really good was out the making fun of him. I told the kid to shut his mouth, and he did. I hate it when people pick on other people.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's ever wrong to stand up for you'r self. If you truly believe the opposite of what a person says then I believe you have the right to go against that.
ReplyDeleteI stood up for my brother and sister once, you see, their both gay, and I've always heard from other students and adults that gays/bi's shouldn't exist, and being related to some, T can't help but get pissed off when someone makes a bad comment about them. In my opinion if someone has liking for the same gender, then it shouldn't matter.... they are human being just like any other person, just like blacks, Hispanics, and all the other races are all the same, if we can accept them into our country, then why not gays / bi's. Just because their different in their views, doesn't mean you need to hate them for it, and GOD doesn't really care about what sexual preference someone has when their on this earth, he looks at the person as a individual, so why can't you?
ReplyDeleteI think it's strange that in this country it seems any atheist can say what they want, but when it comes to a Christian standing up for waht they believe they won't because they don't wanna affend someone not of their religion..? Which makes no sense considering this country is supposed to be based on God even though they try taking God out of everything so they don't affend others. This country's majority is Christian and that's we're supposed to run by so i don't think it makes sense. So now if I can tell someone of a different religion is purposely trying to get under my skin I simply just put my input into what I think. :)
ReplyDeleteI believe it's right to stand up for something if that something is actually worth fighting for and isn't something too stupid...I also believe it shouldn't be against the law (murder, theft, drugs, etc.). I can't really remember the last time I stood up for something to be honest, that's probably not a good thing but I'm just being honest haha.
ReplyDeletei think its important to stand up for what you believe in wether or not everyones against you. i cant say that i've had such an expeirience but i know when i do i will fight for whatever it is without a second thought.
ReplyDeleteI made a stand to safe my sister so she could be in our family and i safed her life so she can have food and i also tought her how to play basketball even if they said you cant teach her anything .
ReplyDeletewell i was in relationship wioth this guy for a year and everyone told me that i needed to break up with him but i didnt care what everyone else thought so i always told them to stay out of it. i just hate when everyone thinks they know whats best for you cuz its your life not theirs. and yes i do think that everyone has a right to stand up for what they believe in and i will never let anyone take that away from me and neither should anyone else.
ReplyDeletei think that you should always stand up for what you believe in no matter what it is other wise you turn into that guy standing next to you because you end up being what they want you to be not who you really are what you believe in and wether or not you will stand up and fight for it is ultimately what defines you
ReplyDeletei think that the right time to stand up for something that you believe in is when somebody is about to something that can wreck the rest of their life and you have to stop them. its important to stand up for things always, no matter what.
ReplyDeletei belive its always important to make a stand no matter who you're standing up to. if your word isnt herd then why are we given a word to speak in the 1st place, whether or not it is permitted or not? isnt speach free? isnt the expression of ones self viewed as a good thing? but yet we have times where we are told it is a bad thing. to get straight to the point, make up your mind society. pick one or the other and stick to it. expression is good or bad. figure it out already
ReplyDeleteI belive you should stand up for yourself at all times .As in what you belive in or how you feel about things .And you should stand up no matter what situation your in .You should also stand up for yourself no matter who you have to stand up to.
ReplyDeletethere is a kid in my fifth hour who everyone picks on. he gets really iritated by tapping noises. and everyone does it just to anoy him. so i stood up for him because i thought what it must be like to be in his shoes.
ReplyDeletepeople call my sister a name pertaining to her hair color. which kinda bothers me. when my sister comes home sad about some kid, i know somthings up. i told all of the people that were calling her names that i felt sorry for them cause this is what there lifes have come to. to get there entertainment by making fun of others is just sad. like i've said before. "guns are just guns, just like words are just words. but its how you use them to do harm."
ReplyDeleteI was on the playground in my 5th grade year and there was this punk kid picking on a 3rd grader and i don't like bullies. So, i approached him and told him to back off and his answer was to push my and call me the equivalent of a female dog, so to answer back i tackled him to the ground and i beat his "ace". I think its important to stand up for yourself or others to express your right to do so as a person and that they or you should deserve to do that if needed.
ReplyDeleteWell usually i won't stand up for things unless you get me worked up. Like some kid asks me to fight him I'm gunna say no even if hes 2ft shorter than me. But if he does something to provoke me and it really bothers me then yeah i'm gunna fight him. I remember an instance when Obama was running for President. They had kids saying they would vote for him if the could because he's black. Usually im not racist but that kinda made me mad. So because he's black and saying change I'm gunna vote for this guy. That's just stupid to me. Now if you had a legitimate reason for voting for Obama then good for you. But thats when i stand up for things when stupid people say stupid things that pertain to what i believe.
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to stand up for most of my friends because they are pretty...mean? Like me lol. Standing up for yourself is probably the biggest lesson you need to learn. If you cant stand up for yourself then what do you really stand for? If i believe in something then i'm going to back it up with everything i have. Im not going to change the way i think or the way i feel for anyone. And if i have a friend who needs me to stand up for them then i will
ReplyDeletei dont usually stand up for anyone till either they start to anoy me or mess with my friends... I dont now why but i get mad when ppl mess with my friends. Or when one of my friends come to me crying, thats when i get mad a wanna do things that arent neccusary, but yea thats the only way ill stand up for someone.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time i dont stand up for anyone but me myself and I. The only times i have really stood up for anything is when i know that i am 100% right and they try to tell me otherwise. Im mostly just chill and layd back so i cant say i stand up for many people. If they get into trouble and i know they were looking for it there is no point in me getting into it to make things worse unless it will have a dirrect effect on me or my family.
ReplyDeleteI think you always need to stand up for what you believe in no matter what the situation. If you just let people tell you what to do, and never take a stand, your gonna get kicked around and beat on. Anarchy!
