“Social Media is about sociology and psychology more than technology.” – Brain Solis Principal of FutureWorksI heard a suggestion this week about how our class should have a facebook page instead of a blogsite. For our classroom purposes, this isn't entirely practical. Part of the beauty of the blogger system is the anonymity it provides allowing students to express themselves candidly without actually having to identify themselves in the process. However, I would be open to adding a facebook page for our class where I could leave reminders to blog and a link to the blogsite as well as reminders about due dates and such, and you would be free to ask me questions about assignments or whatever at any time? What do you think? Would that sort of reminder be a help? For this week's journal entry, give me your opinion about a class facebook page and tell me what you think about social networking in general. Do you love it or do you hate it? And WHY?! :)
Please do not make a facebook page. Facebook is now being taken over by our families and they are snooping into our lives. We do not need teachers snooping into our lives now too.

ReplyDeleteWell if it was just a FaceBook page the admin of the page couldn't look at the person who 'liked' the page's profile if it was private, at least I don't think. I wouldn't mind it, it would probably be quite helpful, I think it's a pretty good idea. I like social networking, it's great for keeping in touch with people you don't see everyday.
ReplyDeleteI would somewhat agree with the facebook page since a lot of people normally have one that would help them remember but also fo a select few that do not have a facebook (like me) I dont see how it would help all of us
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, it certainly would not be much use to those without facebook, but I know of several who can't seem to remember to blog once a week, but find the time to check fb every day! And BigBob, I'm not really sure how that all works. I would have to figure out the whole 'group' thing before it could even be a possibility. Besides, chill out people; I don't have the time or energy to facebook stalk all of you. I do hope your parents are doing just that though!! :D
ReplyDeletei dont think its a good idea at all. Its just seems like an obsurd idea. If you could actually get people to use it would be a miracle. I like facebook but its a personal site. i mean yea people use it to friend people across the world and such but its stuff about you. If you cant get people to blog then they most likely wont use the facebook site either. It's one thing to forget about it once or twice but multiple times? They dont want to do the blog so the facebook would be basically pointless. And what about the people who dont have a facebook? or the people that rarely check theirs?
ReplyDeleteI think that the facebook page is a good idea,because it will help us remember about the homework assignment and about the blogs. It will also help us with homework by asking you questions.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea, but whether I'd actually remember to look at it well...that's a little sketchy. I just feel as if students would forget to look at the reminder actually!

ReplyDeleteA facebook page would actually make me remember blogging. When theres a new blog, my first thought is UUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! not because I don't wanna blog, but because my parents use our computers for work, and by the time there done I've totally spaced out about them. If it was on facebook I would be able to get it done due to my lovely facebook app, even though there is also a browser when i could just go on blogspot and blog, I would be a bit of a hassle when I can just press a button and start typing.

ReplyDeleteI think that would be a bad idea. Facebook is a way for kids to exspress themselves and talk to other peers. It would defeat the purpose if teachers started making facebook.But I like Blogger, its fun and simple. I dont look at it like homework. We should just stick to this.

ReplyDeleteI think it would help. A lot of kids check Facebook daily and it would remind them of these blogs. I myself forget these blogs weekly until it's brought up in class. Social networking in general I believe is great. It allows you to meet and communicate with others at home.

ReplyDeleteI don't think we should use Facebook for the blogging for the same reasons that you mentioned. Anonymity is a beautiful thing. But as for the class Facebook page, I think it's a good idea mainly because half of the time I forget to blog myself. The reminder would be very helpful to me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so.

ReplyDeleteThe only problem with that would be if people don't want people to know what they are writing. I think social networking is good for people because people get to express there true insides and yet get to meet people.

ReplyDeletei do not like the idea of a facebook page. facebook was created as a social site. althogh i do not remember to blog all the time i still get it done most of the time. i have a facebook however, i hardley ever get on it bc its just to troublesome.

ReplyDeleteAll these people are dumb and i only say that because facebook is open to anyone and everyone. If people say it bothers them to have families and other people who make fake pages its not then either change your privacy settings or dont confirm friend requests. I would like the idea of having a facebook page for the class because a lot more people log into facebook rather than the blogger site so a reminder could easily be sent and people could reply to it by sending a message (making it anonymous)rather than commenting. If people dont have a facebook they can make one just like they did to make the an account on here with the same email they had already made from Gmail.

ReplyDeleteI think it would helps kids to remember to do there blogs. I always forget until someone brings it up in class then i forget when i get home. So if you made a facebook kids check that daily so they would see we have a blog to do!

It may be a good idea for some peoplel, but then some ppl may think thawt the teachers will snoop though their stuff. But why would they do that they have way more important things to do in live then that.
