Who is powerful? He that governs his Passions.
Who is rich? He that is Content.
Who is that? Nobody." --Benjamin Franklin

  1. The phrase in general, in my opinion, hasn't changed at all. The 1st park (( who is wise, listens to others )) that is a very good phrase even to this day. All of the phrases are true, even to this day, these phrases seem to be existent through all time, even before the phrases were even spoken by Benjamin Franklin. Being wise would help the world be better, if we could all just listen to ones stories, we would learn from them. Being powerful... doesn't have to be a big thing really, because one powerful person, could ruin everything for the un-powerful people. Rich=Content, that is EPICALLY true, we are only as rich as we think, you could live in a mansion, or a travel trailer, and still be the same when it comes to riches.

  5. Being wise doesn't really mean anything to anyone these days. Being powerful and rich however is, but with out being wise i dont see what you could truly do with power and riches. Being powerful and rich anymore basically means that your a greedy, decietful, and good for nothing or no one except yourself. No one is truely wise anymore, most made hard and bitter by the rich and powerful. This quote is true it is in fact, Nobody.

Being powerful and rich means nothing to me, you only throw yourself into the public eye, and throw your money around. Id rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable.

  6. I believe the above quotation hasn't changed all that much over time. I don't understand how it could change meaning, if anything, it makes more sense now than it did two-hundred years ago.

There are more things to learn now than there were back then, it's more important to control what you're doing and do it right. And if you're content or happy with yourself and the things you're doing, you're going to feel much better, or rich, rather.

  7. I dont really understand this quotation. So its kind of difficult for me to say.

  8. Ah, wisdom, power, and riches all in one thought, this should be interesting!

I would have to agree with the first part of Mr. Franklin's quote. To be wise is to learn. The wise have this thirst for knowledge, this craving. They seem to always ask questions, and they always get an answer. When it comes to being powerful and rich, I don't agree with Ben's quote. To me, power and riches come in the form of wisdom. Think about it, you and your mortal enemy are about to duel it out. Who is more likely to win, the one with brute force or the one with carefully thought out maneuvers and attacks? I personally feel the second would win (just look at the new Sherlock Holmes, it has a perfect example). Wisdom empowers people daily by providing something to base decisions on. Money and pure power are nothing if you don't have the knowledge about how to use them.

  9. Anonymous?--give me something more than that!! Who DO you think is wise or rich or powerful? How DOES one become content? How important is self-control (or governing your passions). You don't have to have attained true enlightment to share your opinion on some part of this. Tell me what YOU THINK about any of it! :)

  10. I believe the quote has not really changed that much over time and to me being wise, powerfull, and rich just means that the wise ones are ok with who they are, powerfull is someone who doesnt care what others think and rich are those with a good sense of humor.

  11. The quotes up above are good, they have changed over the last couple hundred of years though because to be rich now you have to work hard and save your money in the world's economy. People are wise from learning from other idividuals and learning from education in school.
Who is powerful, nobody is really powerful in todays world besides (god and satan) of course.
All events are true and they have all changed a little bit by somehow.

  12. hmmm. this quote in particular gets to me...because to be wise to me means to know all parts of a story or a fact and find a happy medium. That who is powerful...in my opinion the people have lost their power, and those who have power are those with the will to change. this may be the revolt in me at the moment but yeah. and last to me rich:...rich is a state of mind jsut like being cool. I do somewhat agree with Benie boy, rich can mean many things; yo, i got alot of monehy!...or rich in a diffrent way, deeper, in things that matter to the heart...no im not saying one cant exist without the other.

  13. I agree with this statement but I think it has a different meaning then what others think. It's giving examples of those traits but the last line is what people are forgetting "who is that? Nobody." That basically states that nobody is perfect, though people can certainly posses 1 of those qualities, but anyone who thinks they are all of the three traits is either a fool, or a liar.
In today's society these traits have no doubt been altered, Wisdom is achieved when you write a book, or in today's world. Power is achieved when you win the strongest man (woman)competition, or become a leader of a nation. Wealth (Richness), is achieved when you invent something that makes peoples lifes easier, the ShamWow, the Internet, Cellphones, or Oxy-clean. Those are some of the ways these traits have changed over the years.

  14. Wise, powerful, and rich. Three adjectives I'd love to have describe me one day. I think wisdom is really just knowing what the right thing is to do at the moment and/or common sense, having common sense is easier said then done! Powerful, being powerful is having influence over others. And being rich is being content with what you have...or having tos of money! I prefer the latter...

  15. I do agree with what he says. He is basically saying that no one is perfect. It's meaning hasn't changed very much in the last hundered year. When someone some is rich, it means that they have lots of money. Powerful is having lots of money and control over people. Being wise is also knowing things and what to do in certain situations.

  16. I agree because you don't have to have a million pages to write bout how you feel on something or just writting something down. some people could just write 2 sentences or 2 pages to write bout something. I think it just depens on the person and what there writting bout.

  17. Powerful and ritch means to me.
You need to have a strong family. Who love you for who you are. Ritch means that your family may not be ritch with money but ritch with love.

    :)

  18. I do agree with Benjamin Franklin because threre is not one person i can think of that would be happy with power and riches and wisdom. i dont honestly think that the meaning of those words have changed. and finally being wise, powerful and rich to me mean that you are smart and you think, but you hsve influence in the world and to be rich would have to be rich not only with money but with love and all that good stuff...

  19. i think that the quotation or saying by benjamin franklin is correct. i think this because who is wise is the people who want to learn from others. who is powerful is the people that have control over their passions. who is rich the one that is content is the people who are happy with their lives and will do anything to be happy. who is that..... nobody are the people who are to ashamed to introduce people to their family and friends. axelblast sighning out

  20. i agree with this statement. to be wise is to make good decisions in life, and try and to realize when you're wrong to admit it and fix your mistake. And just because someone can write more than another does not mean it has greater meaning.

  21. I think it makes more since now that what it did before.

  22. Tell me why, French-Fries.(:

One sentence isn't going to cut it! Go back and review the rules, folks. You've got a great start here--now say WHY!!

  23. I agree with the statement. beigng wise in life will help u know and uderstand your serounding. Being powerful will help u over come oppsticals in your path. and being rich doesn't alwayts have to refer to money it can also refer to friends family and people that repect you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. None of this stuff applies to 95% of people today because everyone thinks you have to have money. Having a family makes you more rich than money will any day. People now days think they are wise through money but really it should be through education. To be powerful is to control yourself not to be able to beat everybody up. So this quote does not hardly apply with life today!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I too agree with the statement. Being rich in something doesn't mean just money. It could also means being rich in attitude and experience. Being smart is important because it will help you through life in upcoming problems. And being powerful will help you overcome problems and people.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i agree everyone is wise but sometimes you think your are but your not and you are powerful in your own way(and you will be greatful if you are powerful).rich people will not alwas be rich poor people might be rich because of god that made us.

    ReplyDelete
  27. yeah i totally agree with the qoute because there is no one who is content with what they have. it has not changed over the time

    ReplyDelete
  28. for me this quote has not changed at all. I agree with him because no one does these thing thats he mentions.wise is to be smart in every thing, rich is to be the wethyest person in the world, and powerfull to rule the world.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with this quote because to be wise you do have to learn from everyone. and you dont have to rich in wealth, you can be rich in faith or something.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think what ben said has probably changed a little. To me rich means having a $500 dollar allowance. Wise means old people! And powerful means a king, or a president.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rich can be like having 500 dollars in the pocket but i think Benjamin is talking about rich with wisdom, old people can be foolish, and powerful can be having the stregth to stand up for what you belive in or stand up for the weak and stand up to the people who are cruel (Bullies)

  32. I do agree with Benny on this one. I think to be wise is not necessarily to never take risks or always play it safe; I think it means to do what you know how to do, and do it well. Even if it means taking risks. Those that don't take risks won't get anywhere in life. To be powerful is not to control everyone and everything; to be powerful is to control your life, and gain respect for it. It's being revered for who you are, not what's in your control or possession. To be rich is not to have a multitude of money or physical belongings; being rich is having what you have, because you deserve it.

  33. i kind of agree with what he said. nobody could have control over all those things at the same time. They would EXPLODE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. i like the quote i find it inspiring .But at the same time i dont .Becuse nobody could have that much controll .

    ReplyDelete
  35. i agree because you can be richand powerful without money. you can be considered rich with the type of friends you have and your family or with your personality.

    ReplyDelete
  36. personaly i agree with benn completely!! the rich isnt just meaning someone who is weathly, but someone who is rich in love or knowlage. along with knowlage and being "fair" comes wisdom. you see this quote aply to everyday life, from the govn. to your house hold.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, i agree that no one is totally wise nor powerful nor rich. To be wise u need to understand every way to look at the problems in front of you and then choose the wisest choice. To be powerful is to be able to control yourself and others by being yourself and contempt with who you are. To be rich is to be completely happy with every aspect of the life you have.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with Benjamin on all of the parts of the quote except when he says "Who is rich? He that is Content." I don't agree with this part because he who is content would be content with what he has. He wouldn't strive for more. Wait i have to stop myself i think i just got what benjamin is saying here. When he says "Who is rich" i don't think he is talking about money. I think he is talking about something else. Like people say rich never makes a person happy so when he says rich maybe he means happiness or something?? I'm not sure this could go either way. So if he means it as money then i disagree with what he says. But if he is talking about something other than money then i agree with this quote..

    ReplyDelete
  39. every statement is true, because to be one you must forsake the others. so NO ONE can have all three traits in balance.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i do agree what Franklin was saying becuase to be wise you do have to learn alot, not just on one thing but on multiple things. Then to be powerful you have to have controll of ppl, and be a respected governer.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mr.Franklin is right, you can never be wise, powerful, or rich. No man is perfect. Being wise, powerful, or rich to me means having no desire for any material things. Just live life with no worries. Being rich to me means that you love your life, being wise is its definition..the exercise of good judgment or common sense in practical matters, being powerful means that you have control over your life and others.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Being rich and powerful is good. Some people say money isnt important, who ever says that i believe isnt very smart at all. Being rich and powerful would sure make things a lot easier!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with the quote.
i agree with it because I like to belive that it is saying that you can be rich in love and and familly and not necessarily in money.
I also think that it is saying that one can be wise from personal experience and not from just having to go to a school or having an education. I think think that to be powerful one must be able to have self control and to be able to accept them selfs befrore they can take "power" of something or someone else. Although all these things are something that everyone should apply to their life most people don't,
They try to become rich and wealthy through money instead of being rich in love and in health.
They try to become wise through what others tell them to think instead of thinking for themselfs.
They try to become powerful by doing what others would want them to do instead of what they feel is right.
