The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me. ~Ayn Rand As we read Anthem, can you imagine how it would be to live in a world where the Council of Vocations determined the path of your future? How would it would feel to live in a world where you could have no preferences, no say at all, in what you would do for the rest of your life? And then, as you consider how important it is to you to have the freedom to choose your own future, share your plans with us. You may already be set on a course for the future and you may as yet have no idea, but give us at least an idea of the direction you are considering right now because as today becomes tomorrow and tomorrow fades into the next day, the future will be here before you know it! And besides, you get no points for just saying you don't know!! :)
When I get older I want to be a meteorologist. I want to go to school at the University of Oklahoma and study tornadoes and other weather patters. I don't want to be a weather man on TV exactly but I would like to study storms and work for the National Weather Service.
ReplyDeletei have to have freedom than i dont want everyone teated like equal because you will have a bad guy all the time till someone good shows up. the future will be horable and if i live thier thier will be no med. or sports or anything fun and its even illeagl to speak or talk to a guy and when you have a kid you cant even say hi to them or do anything. the jobs are all borning and you wont have fun doing them. and if you know the word than you tough gets cut out and you are burn to death how you feel about it.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as how life is basically a pursuit for happiness, I would hate to not be able to choose my own path. Being stuck doing the same thing over and over every day that I don't even enjoy doing would be terrible.
ReplyDeleteI plan on studying computer science and opening my own computer repair business and do web page design part time. That's something I already enjoy doing, and it's simple. If I was forced to be a street sweeper for my entire life and have no choice, I would never be happy. I don't think anyone would choose that job anyhow.
Obviously I would absolutely HATE having to loive in a world such as that in Anthem, we as Americans are so used to having these natural freedoms that to have them just taken away would be somthing we couldn't deal with. I do have plans for my future. I rap, sing, and dance and am working hard to put out an EP/album this spring and am hoping and planning to have a future in music.
ReplyDeleteit would be horrible. i prefer pizza over spinach. i couldnt do the same thing everyday for the rest of my life, even if its only 40-45 years. i would run whenever i got the chance.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't like a Council of Vocations. I'd probably end up in the Detention facility a lot. I couldnt handle it, it would drive me absolutely bonkers. As for the future i dont really know. I mean i have ideas but none of them are probably going to happen. I want to be a tattoo artist but im no where near being good enough to do that and its the only option that doesnt involve school. So that's my best bet because school is a big pain, you sit and learn the same things over and over agian. Other than that, i just want out of this town, out of this state, because once you get stuck here for a few years your stuck here for life.
ReplyDeletei would personally hate to live in a world like this... because i have my own opinion and my own mind and i like to speak it at moments:) i guess it might be good to stop the fighting but honestly it's a part of life and you go through it and grow up(most of the time) and get over it... :)
ReplyDeleteThat future would be horrible to me I would rather not live or be an outcast then have no freedoms. As for my plans in the future I plan on attending C of O for 4 years then starting off in the military and as for my job in the military I plan on being a surgeon or a medical room assistant.

ReplyDeleteWhen I graduate, I am planning on going to cosmetology school because that is only 9 months. Then after that I am planning on going to nursing school to become a travel nurse. I will be able to travel the world and help people at the same time. I wouldn't like the City of Council to choose my path, I would feel very disapointed because I know they would choose something that I wouldn't want.

ReplyDeleteI would hate it. I love working hard at everything I do just to succeed and get a great job. Being told who I was and what i do would frustrate me. I love the way we have it now.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone would be happy if they could only do what the government would allow them. If you don't enjoy your job, you won't really be happy with anything in your life.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a council later on in my life and I all ready experienced what freedom was, then I would go against. But I believe if you were born into a world like the one in Anthems then you wouldn't know the difference. In the future though I would like to attend a community college of some sort or possibly teach world history.

ReplyDeleteWhen I get older I wanna work for the CIA or something like that. I would hate for someone to come up to me and tell what I had to do. Espiaclly if it was something completely oppisite of what I wanna do. Of course first I gotta get into college.
ReplyDeleteif i had some group of people i've never once met before in my life tell me what im going to do for the rest of my life i would be extreamly upset if i didnt get what i wanted. but if i had lived in this time period where this occured, i dont think it would upset me honestly, because it would just be a way of life
ReplyDeletei would not like to have everybody equal there is no fun to that everything will just be boring and it will be a waste of a life i think i would not even last a minute in a world like that and what i want to do in the future is go to med school and study to be a plastic surgeon and have a happy and crazy life with an amazing family.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't like the future like the future in the book like anthem. it would suck to have to be made to be equal to the extent of changing the word i and making it forbidden to say. and the line of work being picked out for you would just be terrible.
ReplyDeleteIn a world where i have no say?...hmmm what a world. in someways i would hate this because well I'm a very opinionated person but in other ways...it wouldn't be so bad because i wouldn't have to make any decisions...no need to feel pain because i didn't choose it. but i don't think i would want the world that way...even if it does cost me some pain.

ReplyDeleteI would hate that because I have big dreams and goals for my future. I want to go to collage for culinary arts and bussiness to become a cheif and own my own resteraunt. I no it doesn't sound like a big dream but it is to me.
ReplyDeletei honestly do not know where my path of life may lead. i am talented in many fields, so i have no idea what job i could get. I like cooking but a culinary degree won't do me much good outside of the cooking world. meh, roll with the blows and give as good as you get.

ReplyDeleteIn the future I would like to just help people I like to speak spanish and english both considering my mom speaks spanish and my boyfriend I like to help him and her speak bout I would like to do that maybe in schools whenever I am older help teacher students that don't understand english very well. As I spend more time around my family and boyfriend I pick up more and more in spanish and it is interesting.

I dont think it would be right to have a Council that has control over your life because it's your right as a person to be free and make your own choices in your own life. If you take that away then there is nothing left.
ReplyDeleteLife basically would not be worth living. Not able to choose your own path, and be an idividual would be atrocious. These elements are similiar to communism, except more extreme, which is bad enough as it is. We as humans deserve a right to do whatever we want, be whatever we want to be, and no form of government will ever take that away from me.

and im REALLY out spoken about things. IF some one makes me mad they will know right away. And i would really hate it cause you cant love and i love my family and friends and my boyfriend. So i dont think i could go though with all of that like they did.
I would hate to live in a world like that. I think it would be terrible because you wouldn't know who your parents are, and you wouldn't have friends because it would be against the rules. Also I would hate it because I don't want other people to choose what I have to do for the rest of my life.

ReplyDeleteI would not be able to live in a that future.It would be hard to get use to losing all your rights as a person. Why live in a future where you will be miserable? I just simply couldn't get use to the idea. I still don't know what i want to be when i get older but i hope that it'll be something it will enjoy. Im happy that i get to have all my freedom and the opportunity to become who i want to be.

ReplyDeletei would like it because i would have to work even less and people would have to work for me and i would not have to worry about food or nuthin and shelter and such and then i would probbly just sit and play vid games all day and nothing but that and also i would probly do what ever i would want as people would have to wait on me because i would be in charge of the people that had no say in what they would do but i hope they would not like me so i would be able to tell them what to do and such so alot of people would have to wait on me so yaaa.................

ReplyDeleteThe thought of having to choose one carrer i dont really know i could do that. I myself dont exactly know right now though. i have thought of cartoonist, tatto artist, a computer animater.But all i do know is what i do will be in art.
